Bangladesh has achieved significant progress in ICT. Now, women need to be empowered through ICT and English Language skills, observed UGC Chairman (State Minister) Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury.
He made the observation while speaking as the chief guest at an inaugural ceremony of 2-day long workshop on ‘Educaton Technology and Women: key issues for development’ at Bangabandhu Internatonal Conference Centre, Dhaka on Tuesday. Robert Gibson CMG, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh was the special guest on the occasion. Brendan McSharry, OBE, Country Director, British Council and Dr Johan Bentinck, Team Leader, English in Action gave the welcome address on the occasion.
UGC Chairman said, we have to emphasize on enhancing English language skills to compete as world citizen in today’s world. He further said that communicative English language skills are the demand of the day in today’s service sectors.
UGC Chairman observed that ICT education and English language skills are key to access to world knowledge pool.
Meanwhile, a meeting was held between UGC and British Council, Bangladesh on the same day. Centre of excellence, quality assurance and English language for higher education came up for the discussion.
Prof Dr Atful Hye Shibly, Member, UGC, Prof Dr Md. Akhter Hossain, Member, UGC, Prof Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head of Qulaity Assurance Unit, UGC, Prof Dr Sanjay Kumar Adhikary, quality assurance specialist, Prof SM Kabir, quality assurance specialist, UGC Secretary Dr Md Khaled, among others, were present on the occasion from UGC side.
Robin Devies, Director, Partnership programme, Ismail Badat, South Asian Regional Manager, M. Towhidur Rahman, Head of Higher Education and Omar Faruque, Project Manager, Higher Education were present from Baritish Council Bangladesh side.
