Skilled work force for middle-income country emphasized

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid here said skilled work force, professionalism and good governance are needed to turn Bangladesh into a middle income country.
“We need new technologies, innovations and ideas to compete globally. Our young generation has tocome up with their wisdom and innovation to keep pace in the fast changing world,” he said this on Thursday while speaking at the closing ceremony of a three-day conference and exposition on renewable energy at the Senate
Building of Dhaka University (DU).
The Institute of Energy of DU and the Bangladesh Solar Energy Society (BSES) jointly organised the event titled “National Renewable Energy Conference and Green Expo-2018”.
 Nasrul said that solarhome system could be established in over 43 lakh houses across the country as government contributed 50 percent expenditure.
“Renewable energy is still costly in the poor countries. Bangladesh has to power itself with renewableenergy as we are one of the most vulnerable countries to be affected by climate change,” he added.
The state minister distributed prizes among the winners of art and debate competitions and energy Olympiad held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban. The competitions focused on sustainable energy management.
Convener of Climate Parliament Bangladesh Nahim Razzaq, Director of the DU Energy Institute Saiful Huque, Secretary of Power Division, Energy and Mineral Resources Dr Ahmad Kaikaus and Chairman of Nitol Niloy Group Abdul Matlub Ahmed also spoke, among others.
