Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra reached the semifinal Walton Federation Cup Football eliminating Rahmatganj MFS by 1-0 goals in the extras time at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Saturday.
The hard fought 2nd quarterfinal match between two teams was locked in goalless position in the scheduled 90-minuntes and forced the match towards extras time.
Paul Emile scored the match winning goal for Sheikh Russel KC in the 102nd minute from a counter attack. Midfielder Jamal Bhuiyan sent a long through pass to Paul who found net by a placing shot over on rushing goalie Masum (1-0).
They will play the 2nd semifinal on Thursday (June 23) against the winners Abahani Limited and Brothers Union, who will meet each other in the 3rd quarterfinal on Sunday (June 19)
In the day’s match, Fikru Teferra of Sheikh Russel squandered a good chance in the 26th minute. The Ethiopian striker, receiving Ikanga’s misplaced effort, shot straight to the Rahmatganj goalie Samiul Islam Masum.
Two minutes later, Rahmatganj defender Shawkat Rassel made a goal-line clearance after Monayem Khan Raju’s shot deflected off defender Rafiqur Rahman Mamun.
In the injury time of first half, Sheikh Russel’s forward Fikru unleashed a powerful volley from 20 yards, off Raju pass, that flew inches over the crossbar.
Rahmatganj were unfortunate in the 61st minute as right footer Sohel Mia hit the crosspiece.
Siyo Zunapio of Rahmatganj missed an easy chance in the 90th minute. Substitute forward Syed Rashed Turzo sent a cross to Congolese forward Zunapio who made a shot from one to one situation but opponent goalie Rasel Mahmud Liton punched the ball at the cost of corner.
In the 92nd minute, substitute forward of Russel Rummon Hossain failed to score despite of finding opponent goalie at his mercy. Rummon shot was saved for corner by goalie Masum.
Rahmatganj was reduced into 10-man in the 120th minute when their Asif Hossain Rimon was sent off after receiving double yellow cards.
