Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited edged past Chattogram Abahani Limited by 2-1 goals in their first match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited led the first half 1-0.
Sheikh Jamal’s Uzbek recruit Otabek put his team ahead by a spectacular free-kick in the 40th minute of the play.
After the intermission, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club doubled the margin. Nurul Absar’s header found the net which came on his way from a cross of his teammate Monir Hossain in the 50th minute of the match.
In the 83rd minute Chattogram Abahani Limited were awarded a penalty. Monir Hossain of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited tried to tackle Chattogram Abahani’s Brazilian recruit Nixon in the Sheikh Jamal’s D-box. But Monir fell down in the field and the ball touched his hand. Thus Chattogram Abahani got a spot-kick and Nixon made no mistake to struck the ball into the bar.
Chattogram Abahani got another chance at the dying moment but Abahani’s Uzbek defender Shukur Ali’s right-footer angular free-kick was saved by Sheikh Jamal’s goalie Ziaur Rahman by an eye-catching dive.
