The Upazila Administration Mobile Court and the Consumer Rights Protection Department on Thursday (March 10) conducted separate operations against the sale of edible oil at high prices and to finds out illegal stocks at Shibala in Manikganj.
It is learned that in spite of stocking about 400 liters of bottled soybean in Dilip Sanyasi’s warehouse at Aricha Bazar of the upazila, he was selling it at a price of Tk. The warehouse owner was fined Tk 20,000 by a mobile court for the crime. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer and the Executive Magistrate run the Mobile Court.
On the other hand, District Consumer Rights Protection Department Officer Md. Asaduzzaman Rumel conducted raids in Tepra, Uthli and Aricha markets of Shibalaya Upazila. During the raid, six traders were fined for selling and stockpiling oil bottles at exorbitant prices.
Sentu Saha, a trader from Uthali Bazar of the upazila, was fined Tk. 2,000, Nirmal Sahatk 5,000, and Nurul Islam, Biswajit Saha and Anil Saha of Tepra Bazar were fined Tk. 5,000 each. At that time traders were instructed to sell oil at the price fixed by the government.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mahabubul Islam, Sanitary Inspector Hamida Yasmin, Ansar and BGB members assisted the operation.
