Court Correspondent :The Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka on Tuesday sentenced six persons to death for killing Rajarbagh police telecom department Operator Golam Shamsul Haider eight years ago.Judge Shahed Nuruddin of the tribunal sentenced two other convicts to suffer imprisonment for life. The death convicts include three of Haider’s colleagues identified as the telecom department’s Office Assistant Mohammad Hafizul Hossain, Accountant Mohammad Abdul Latif and Superintendent Anwar Hossain Sarker.The other three convicts are Babul alias Tapan Chakrobarty, Mohammad Wasim and Mohammad Kajal Mia.The life-term sentenced convicts are Shamsul Alam and Rajan Mia. They have also been fined Tk 100,000 each or to serve a year more rigorous imprisonment if they fail to pay the fines, Special Public Prosecutor of the case, Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan, told the newsmen. Hafiz, Latif, Babul and Rajan are on the run while another accused Rana Mia died during the investigation process of the case.Shamsul Haider was hacked to death on the street in front of the AGB Colony in the city’s Motijheel on Sept 6, 2006. His elder brother Abul Kamal Azad filed the murder case with the Motijheel Police Station.
