Six shops gutted, 9 hurt in Chandpur

Valuables worth over Tk 50 lakhs were gutted when a devastating fire burnt six shops to ashes at Kalir Bazar -a growing commercial hub in Faridganj Upazila early Friday.
On getting information, three fire units of Chandpur Sadar led by Assistant Director Md Farid Ahmed and Senior Station officer Mobarak Ali and another fire unit from Roypur (Luxmipur) rushed to the spot at 4.20 am and doused the flames by 6 am- said senior station officer Mobarak Ali. But by that time all the six shops filled with goods and commodities were charred by fire -said the Bazar traders President Zakir Khan and another affected- Abdur Razzaque with tears. They added that the fire originated from electric short circuit and it spread around rapidly engulfing the adjacent shops. At least 8/9 people sustained fire injuries while extinguishing fire.
 The fire fighters’ leader Mobarak Ali said, it was presumed that the fire had originated from electric short circuit. Valuation of loss by fire was yet to be estimated by them just this moment. But the affected shopkeepers claimed that valuables worth over Tk 50 lakhs were damaged in this fire.
