Six killed in lightnings

Six people, including a schoolgirl, were killed and seven others injured in separate incidents of lightning
strike in Satkhira, Sherpur and Brahmanbaria districts on Wednesday.
In Satkhira, four people, including two women, were killed and seven others injured as they were struck by lightning in separate incidents in Shyamnagar upazila in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Nurunnahar, 35, wife of Abdur Rahman of Sora village, Sajeda Begum Saju, 35, wife of Amzad Ali of Patrakhola village, Abdul Hamid, 45, son of Mofazzal Hossain of Taranipur village, and Riyad Gazi, 70, of Paranpur village. Quoting witnesses, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station Enamul Haque said the four died on the spot and seven others were injured as thunderbolt hit them around 8:30am.
The injured were admitted to Shyamnagar upazila health complex. Of them, the condition of two were stated to be critical, the OC added.
In Sherpur, Laki Khatun, 12, a Class-V student of Madhya Nalitabari Government Primary School and daughter of Anwarul Islam of Rajnagar village in Nalitabari upazila, suffered injuries as she was hit by a thunderbolt when he was standing at a balcony of their house during rain in the morning.
She was rushed to the upazila health complex where doctors declared her dead.
In Brahmanbaria, a lighting strike hit farmer Nurul Amin, 50, son of late Abdul Momin of Satgaon village in Bijoynagar upazila, when he was working in his field near his house, leaving him dead on the spot.
