Six killed in Gazipur road accidents

Gazipur Correspondent :At least six people were killed, two of them were women, and nine others injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur district on Tuesday.At Kaliakoir, five people were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a leguna in front of forest office at Chandra on Dhaka-Tangil highway of the upazila at 8:00am. Of the dead, four have been identified as Abdus Sobhan, 35, son of Habibur Rahman from Meghair village under Kazipur Upazila in Sirajgonj district, Abdul Khalek,35, son of Late Sikkur Ali from Khan Pukuria village under Singra Upazila in Nator district, Abdul Hakim, 40, son of Late Khorshed Alam from Jaoiar village under Gopalpur Upazila in Tangil  district, and Khadiza Beguem, 20, wife of Shahin Alam from Nandi village in Bogra district. The identity of one male aged about 35 could not be confirmed instantly. The deceased Abdul Hakim and Khadza were the daughter and father in relation, sources said.Sub-Inspector Alamgir Hossain, In charge of Chandra Police Camp under Kaliakoir Police Station said that a Konabari bound leguna coming from Chandra of Kaliakoir collided head-on with a Truck coming from the opposite direction. The leguena was fully smashed and broken into pieces and two of the passenger died on the spot. Local people rescued the injured and took to nearby Kaliakoir Upazila health complex where the doctor declared three more as dead. The other four injured, including Md Resul Mia, 35, and Kariman Bibi, 30 were given treatment there.Dr Sirajul Islam, the on duty emergency doctor of Kaliakor Upazila Health Complex said that the body of dead were kept in the hospital and the injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College hospital in critical condition.The same day at Tongi, an unidentified woman aged about 32 was killed and three others were injured in the Silmon area of Tongi on Tongi-Kaligonj Road. Sub-Inspector Helal Uddin of Tongi Police Station said that a Dhaka bound Truck hit a standing Laguna after blasted one of its wheel. The woman died on spot and three others injured due to the accident. Of the injured, Mamun, 30, the driver of the Laguna was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. The other two injured were admitted to nearby Catharsis Hospital. The identity of the injured is not yet confirmed.
