Six candidates including two rebel from the ruling Awami League and one from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party filed nominations for the position of the mayor in municipality elections scheduled on March 20.
The intending candidates are Moksed Ali from the Al, independent candidate central Juba League member and incumbent mayor Mustfazur Rahman Biju and Masudur Rahman Mantu (rebel), BNP candidate Atiar Rahman, rebel candidate claiming himself as an independent candidate Ashrafuzzaman Lal and Jaker Party candidate Nurul Islam.
Further, 54 male candidates filed nominations against nine ward councilor and 13 for three female seats.
District Election office sources said, Kalaiganj municipality was established with 15.83 square kilometres of land on Marcch 14 of 190. A total of 30,734 voters including 15,322 female voters ate casting their votes on the day.
