Police picked up six youths and recovered one kilogram of gunpowder from an under-construction building at Rampura in the city on Monday night.
They also reportedly recovered some bomb-making materials, three sets of police uniforms, books of Islamic literature, the membership and ‘dawati’ (Invitation) books of the Jamaat-e-Islami and the Islami Chhatra Shibir from their possession,
The youth are Sabbir Hossain, 23, Md Shafique, 25, Md Rony, 24, Rumman Hossain, 22, Ataur Rahman, 20 and Abdul Quader, 28.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team of Rampura Police Station raided an
under-construction building on the Ulon Road, West Rampura at about 11:30pm and arrested them, said Rafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station.
The detainees were planning to carry out subversive activities with explosives on the Xmas and the 31st night, the OC said.
They are being interrogated in this connection, he said. A case has been filed in this connection.
