Members of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested six CNG run auto-rickshaw lifters of an organised gang from Chittagong and four other districts from Saturday to Thursday.
The arrestees were identified as Sahabuddin, 25, Monir, 44, Abdul Jabbar, 44, Shahjahan alias Jasim, 40, Shamsuddin, 25 and Azad, 36. Police also recovered eight stolen CNG auto-rickshaws from their possessions.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of city’s Panchlaish police station Mohiuddin Mahmud said during investigating a case that was filed for thievery of a CNG auto-rickshaw, they came to learn about the gang who snatch CNG run auto-rickshaw.
Among them, police arrested six from Dhaka, Chittagong, Narayangonj, Noakhali and Bandarban districts, the OC added.
The gang used to snatch auto-rickshaws by hiring those as passengers and returned the vehicles after taking ransom from the owners, the OC said.
