Six BNP men get anticipatory bail from HC

The High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to six BNP leaders and activists including its joint secretary general Habib-Un Nabi Khan Sohel in a case filed in connection with a series of clashes between the activists of the party and police in front of the National Press Club recently.
The HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order after holding hearing on a bail petition filed in this regard.
Jubo Dal president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Chhatra Dal president Fazlur Rahman Khokan and secretary Iqbal Hossain Shyamol,
Sechchasebok Dal president Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel and organizing secretary Jewel Howlader also secured bail by the order.
Barrister Kayser Kamal who appeared in the court on behalf of the bail seekers said, “The court granted bail them till April 4. They have been instructed to surrender in the trial court after this time.”
On February 28 at least 40 people, including cops, were injured in a series of clashes between the activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and police in front of the National Press Club after police foiled a protest rally.
Chhatra Dal was to hold a rally in front of the Press Club on February 28 to protest the decision to revoke the gallantry award of former president Ziaur Rahman, and to demand the repeal of the Digital Security Act and an investigation into the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in custody.
Police filed a case with Shahbagh police station in this connection mentioning 47 persons’ name on charges of assaulting police, obstructing them from discharging duties and vandalism.
