Six BNP leaders taken on remand

A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed six more BNP leaders including Joint Secretary General Md Shahjahan on a two-day remand each in a case filed by the police on the charge of vandalism and arson.
Magistrate Anwar Sadat of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court passed the order for two days’ remand after hearing.
Banani Police Station’s Sub-Inspector and also the Investigation Officer of the case Md Ashrafuzzaman earlier, produced the accused to the court and sought a ten-day police remand for each of the accused.
Other five accused who have been placed on
 remand are: BNP’s Assistant Office Secretary Shamimur Rahman Shamim, Assistant Information and Research Secretary Habibur Rahman Habib, central committee members Belal Ahmed and Manirul Haque and Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) Presidium Member Ahsan Habib Linkon.
Md Shahjahan and Belal Ahmed were arrested from Gulshan area on January 12, while Shamimur Rahman Shamim was held from Dhanmondi area of the capital on the same day in the evening. Other accused were nabbed in the city on different times.
