Six BCL men arrested: Kidnapping for ransom

Police on Friday arrested six Bangladesh Charta League (BCL) activists for their involvement in kidnapping a businessman for ransom.Shahbagh police arrested them from their dormitory. The arrestees are members of BCL’s Jagannath Hall Unit of Dhaka University.Police sources said, the accused persons on Thursday night picked up businessman Farhad Islam from Fakirapul. They kept him confined in the hall on Thursday night and sent a message to the victim’s family for Tk five lakh for his release. Having received the phone call for money the members of victims family asked the kidnappers to take the money from central Shaheed Minar area on Friday afternoon.  The matter was already informed to the police. During the time of handing over of money a young man identified as Arfan was caught red handed. On the basis of his statement the kidnapped man was rescued from a room of Jagannath Hall. Six BCL activists were also arrested in this connection, police said.
