The authorities of Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh on Wednesday expelled six students for various terms in connection with the killing of the final year student- Saad Ibne Momtaz.
All the expelled students are the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Ashraful Haque Hall unit of the university.
Among them, three were expelled for life-term while two were for four years and the other for two years.
The decision was taken at an emergency syndicate meeting of the university held at the Administrative Building in the morning with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rafiqul Hoque in the chair. The university authorities took the decision following a probe committee report submitted on Tuesday night, said Registrar of the university Abdul Khaleq.
The life-term expelled students are Sujoy Kumer Kundu and Rokonuzzaman Rokon, final year students of the Department of Fisheries and Rezaul Karim Reza, a master’s student of the Department of Finance.
Najmul Sadat Russel and Dewan Mohammad, final year students of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology,were banished for four years while Md Antar Chowdhury of the Department of Livestock was ousted for two years from the university.
The agitating students of the university rejected the decision of the authorities, as they want life-term expulsion of all the suspects involved with the killing.
They laid siege to the Administrative Building in the morning in favour of their demand. They also held a demonstration rally at the foot of Bijoy-71.
On April 2 night, police arrested Sujoy and Rukon from Patgudam area of Mymensingh after a murder case was filed by the university authorities against them. The university Chhatra League drove out the duo permanently on April 4.
On April 1, Saad, who was also a BCL activist, died at a local clinic hours after he was allegedly tortured by some fellows of BCL in room 250/A at the Ashraful Haque Hall. From the incident, general students of the university have been agitating for the punishment of the culprits those who were involved with the killing.
