The delegation from the United States and China arrived in Cox’s Bazar to observe the overall conditions of the Rohingya refugees who arrived in Bangladesh facing atrocity in Rakhine State in Myanmar.
The US delegation reached Cox’s Bazar by air on Sunday morning. US Ambassador to Dhaka Earl Robert Miller accompanied the delegation.
From there, the delegation went directly to the Rohingya camp ‘Kutupalang-18’. The nine-member Chinese delegation reached Cox’s Bazar on Sunday morning. From there, the delegation, led by Chinese Ambassador Li Jiming, visited the Rohingya camp located on the Zero Line of the Tumbru Konarpara border on Ghumdhum of Bandarban.
It is reported that Li Jiming will hold a meeting with top officials of the Rohingyas and local administration on Rohingya repatriation.
The meeting of Chinese delegation with officials of the District Administration and UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was also scheduled to be held on the day.
The delegations are basically assigned to work on Rohingya refugees.
Bangladesh is now hosting over 1.1 million Rohingyas, most of whom entered the country after August 25, 2017.
