Death-row convicts in Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan murder case Pradeep Kumar Das and Liakat Ali have been brought at Chattogram Central Jail from Cox’s Bazar District Jail.
They reached Chattogram Central Jail at about 1:25pm on Saturday (February 5, 2022).
Chattogram Central Jail’s jailer Dewan Mohammad Tariqul Islam confirmed it.
He said Pradeep Kumar Das and Liakat Ali have been kept at the Cell No. 32 of the jail.
Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail sentenced Liakat Ali and Pradeep Kumar Das to death, six
others to life term imprisonment, and acquitted seven others in the verdict on January 31.
“Pradeep Kumar Das and Liakat Ali collaborated to the killing in a pre-planned manner, and hence they were handed the death penalty. The six given life term imprisonment were involved in the killing and assisted Liakat and Pradeep in different ways and hence they cannot be relieved of the charges brought against them in connection with the killing,” the court observed.
“Liakat shot Sinha dead and staged a gunfight to cover up the crime,” said the court, adding, “Pradeep has committed crime by executing the assassination plan, by stomping wounded Sinha to ensure his death, by destroying the murder evidence and filing cases against the victims.”
