A Cox’s Bazar court placed the seven accused including Teknaf Police Station’s suspended officer-in-charge Pradeep Kumar Das on a fresh four-day remand for each in connection with the retired Major Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case.
Tamanna Farah, judge of Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-3, granted the remand on Monday, the Rapid Action Batallion’s (RAB) Legal and Media wing Director Ashique Billah told The Business Standard.
The investigating officer Khairul Alam, assistant superintendent of police, RAB-15 said the Sinha murder case has made significant progress. But the accused need to be questioned further in the interest of investigation.
The accused including OC Pradeep, inspector Liaquat and sub-inspector Nandalal were produced before the court seeking a remand for seven more days. But after the hearing, the court granted remand to all of them for four days.
The four other accused are- assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Liton Mia, constables Safanur Rahman, Kamal Hossain and Abdullah Al Mamun.
Earlier on August 12, Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah granted a seven-day remand for the accused after hearing the remand plea of the investigating officer.
On the night of July 31, retired Army major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed in police firing in Cox’s Bazar Marine Drive.
Sinha’s sister Sharmin Shahria Ferdous filed a case with the Teknaf Upazila Judicial Magistrate court on August 5, accusing Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge Pradeep, Baharchhara Check-post In-Charge Liakat among nine policemen for the killing his brother.
On August 6, OC Pradeep surrendered before the court.
