Singer Lucky Akhand no more

Noted singer and songs composer Lucky Akhand died after a prolonged illness in a city hospital on Friday evening. He was 61.
He breathed his last at Mitford Hospital at about 6:30pm, said Ershadul Haque Tinku, a close aide of the deceased.
After long treatment in the hospital, Lucky Akhand returned to his residence at the city’s Armanitola last week.
But he was again taken to the Mitford Hospital in view of his deteriorating physical condition on Friday afternoon. The doctors declared him dead at 6.30 pm, Ershadul Haque Tinku said.
Lucky Akhand was a singer, lyricist, composer and music director. His first album ‘Lucky Akhand’ was released by Sargam in 1984.
‘Ei Neel Monihar,’ ‘Amai Deko Na,’ ‘Reetineeti Jani Na,’ ‘Agey Jodi Jantam’ and ‘Sumona’ are some of his albums that earned him reputation and popularity.
After his brother Happy Akhand died in 1987, Lucky retired from the music world.
Nevertheless after a decade, he returned with two albums titled ‘Porichoy Kobey Hobe’ and ‘Bitrishna Jiboney Aamar in 1998.’
He was regular in many live music programme on television channels.
