Staff Reporter :State Minister for Post and Telecommunication Tarana Halim has said that no SIM will be re-registered after May 31, and therefore, all unregistered SIMs will be closed. The biometric SIM registration date will not be extended.She said this at a press conference held in her Secretariat office on Sunday.Tarana Halim said, “The registration was extended for one month from April 30 considering the customers demand. So far, 10.09 crore SIMs have been re-registered and 3.30 crore SIMs must be re-registered by May 31.”But those who will fail to register their SIMs within the given period will find their SIMs blocked for two months. The owners of the SIMs can only repurchase it after two months,” she said.She said also that mobile operators can sell those unregistered SIMs after a certain period of time. Only non-resident Bangladeshis can register their SIMs within 15 months, the Minister added.The government launched biometric SIM registration on 16 December last year.So far 10.09 crore SIMs have been registered through the biometric process, the Junior Minister said.
