City Desk :
By virtue of pragmatic and dynamic steps taken by the present government, Bangladesh has attained a remarkable success in economic and social development sectors during the last eight years, speakers at a discussion said yesterday.
They viewed the successes have become visible in all the major and vital sectors like ICT, agriculture, education, reduction of infant and maternal mortality, poverty reduction, safety net and women empowerment. The nation is getting international awards one after another as recognition of the achievements.
They said this while addressing the closing session of a three-day ‘Development Fair- 2017’ held for the third consecutive time in Rajshahi amidst a festive mood aims at focusing the present government’s success relating to the economic and social development.
The fair organized by the district administration was held on Rajshahi College playground where more than 70 government and development associate organizations showcased their respective development achievements through separate stalls.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Hannan and commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Shafiqul Islam addressed the session as chief and special guests respectively with Kazi Ashraf Uddin, deputy commissioner of Rajshahi, in the chair.
Principal of Rajshahi College Prof Habibur Rahman, commissioner of Income Taxes Dabir Uddin, commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Moazzem Hossain and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ataul Gani also spoke. Abdul Hannan says digitization of government services and expansion of Bangladesh’s IT economy were a core principle of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s election in 2009.
As part of her 2014 election campaign, the prime minister launched “Digital Bangladesh Vision 2021,” a plan to fully digitize Bangladesh by 2021. Once upon a time, the rural poor in Bangladesh had been forced to travel long distances to receive the simplest of government services and information, losing wages in the process.
To remedy this, the government introduced the Access to Information online program, which brings government services to its citizens.
They can access government sites, see public exam results, read online textbooks and take advantage of a range of services from home. Side by side with the fair, a number of seminars were held highlighting the achievements and other development fields.
In addition to three reality shows, 12 selected government offices presented their successes. The fair also presented cultural functions based on the Great War of Liberation and present government’s successes.
