Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon believes that Bangladesh’s power-hitting needs to be improved. He also stated that the current batting coach, Jamie Siddons, has expressed interest in working with the national team on it.
Bangladesh has not been consistent in the T20 format, recently they lost two T20 series against West Indies and Zimbabwe. Papon wants the Tigers to develop their power-hitting skills as they are set to play Asia Cup, which will be played in the T20 format.
“We thought of appointing someone from outside as a power-hitting coach. Because the main problem we see in T20 is that we have enough players, but our problem is, we need a mental change if we want to win and there is no alternative to power hitting. As we were discussing what to do about it, Jamie suggested that he was very interested in it (working as power-hitting coach),” said Papon.
“I met with Siddons, I got to know that there was practice here (at Mirpur Stadium) and some (cricketers) were working on power hitting,” he added.
Papon also said that the newly appointed T20 captain Shakib al Hasan was confident about the Asia Cup in UAE.
“I am always in touch with Shakib. I speak to all the players. I asked Shakib how he feels and how well Bangladesh can do in the tournament. I’ve noticed that he (Shakib) is very confident, he always is. It’s important that he remains confident. The belief must be there,” he added.
