Siddikur carries national flag in Rio Olympic

Ace golfer Siddikur Rahman, the first Bangladeshi sports personality who is directly qualified for the Olympic Games, carried the Bangladesh national flag during the Rio Olympic 2016 opening ceremony that started early hours of Saturday in Bangladesh time.
The iconic Maracana Stadium hosted a pulsating gathering for more than 70,000 fans, 10,400 athletes and dozens of world leaders as the first Olympics to be staged in South America gets under way.
More than 200 countries were represented during the longest stretch of the show, with athletes waving national flags and cheering to the crowd as they were introduced one by one.
Meanwhile apart from Siddikur, Shamoly Roy (archery), Abdullah Hel Baki (shooting), Mahfizur Rahman (swimming), Sonia Akter (swimming) , Shirin Akter (athletics) and Mejbah Ahmed (athletics) are taking part in Rio Olympic.
Country’s famed shooter Abdullah Hel Baki will stand for Bangladesh in 10-metre air rifle qualifying round on Monday (August 8). Three days later country’s ace golfer Siddikur Rahman, who carried the national flag at Rio Games opening ceremony, will start his campaign in the men’s individual stroke play.
Bangladesh’s next event will be swimming when Mahfizur Rahman Sagar, who carried the national flag in the London Olympics, is the only member of the team to have prior experience of Olympics participation, will land in the pool for men’s 50-metre freestyle heats on August 12. On the same day female swimmer Sonia Akhtar Tumpa will make her attempt in the 50-metre freestyle heats.
Country’s fastest woman Shirin Akhtar will test her skill in the 100-metre sprint preliminary round on August 12 and fastest man Mesbah Ahmed will conclude Bangladesh’s campaign by taking part in the 100-metre sprint preliminary round.
