Manir Hossain, Narayanganj :
Siddirganj Police Station yesterday introduced “Open House Day,” the day in a week it has set aside to contact people directly.
District Police Superintendent Jayedul Alam attended the programme as the chief guest, while Assistant Police Superintendent (K Zone) Mehedi Imran Siddique was present as special guest.
In his speech, Jayedul Alam said that police have now become friends of people and they have to come forward to make this bond stronger. “Unless we get assistance from the common people, police wouldn’t be able to discharge that kind of service everyone expects from them” said the chief guest. The system is helping to make policemen accountable as people from the cross-section of the society even put forward different irregularities of the police and force cops to take prompt action against them after receiving such allegations.
Sufferings of the commoners and crimes have lessened manifold with introduction of the programme, he said, adding that they even get ideas about the real law and order situation of the locality which help them take next course of action. Open House Day was introduced through the police reform programme under the Community Policing Policy. Police hold the Day once a month on anyday with Police Super and people get chance of talking directly at their respective police stations about their problems. Allegations of various types of social crimes such as torture on women and children, dowry, drug trading, extortion, and harassment of commoners usually dominate the Open House Day discussion.
Officer-in-charge of Siddirganj Police Station Kamrul Faruk presided over the event that was also attended by people from all walks of life.
