Sujan killing: SI Zahid on fresh remand

A Dhaka court yesterday (Thursday) placed Zahidur Rahman Khan, a Sub-Inspector of Mirpur Model Police Station of the capital on a two-day fresh remand after hearing on a petition seeking a three-day fresh remand in connection with his alleged involvement in garment-waste trader Mahbubur Rahman Sujan’s killing.
Meanwhile, police source Nasim Sheikh gave a
confessional statement to a court of Dhaka admitting his involvement.
Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakraborati of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka granted the fresh remand of Zahid while Magistrate Ashok Kumar Dutta recorded the confessional statement of Nasim under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Earlier, the two were quizzed for a total of nine days in three phases.
On July 16, Zahid and Nasim were arrested at Rupnagar of Mirpur in the capital after the autopsy report mentioned that Sujan died of torture.
Police filed a case the following day, accusing eight people, including Zahid and Nasim. Of the other accused, three are Mirpur Police Station officials and the rest are police informers.
Meanwhile, the victim’s wife filed a case with a Dhaka court accusing 10 people, including Zahidur Rahman and Mirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salauddiln.
Besides, the court has ordered a judicial investigation into the incident.
