A police official was detained for boarding a flight from Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) without passport and other documents.
Airport Director Kazi Iqbal Karim said that immigration officers handed over Sub-Inspector (SI) Ashiqur Rahman. He is a resident of Gopalganj and has been transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in Dhaka recently.
“It is unfortunate to see a police official acting this way,” Karim said.
Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Chairman Air Vice-Marshal M Naim Hassan said that they were looking into the incident seriously.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamum, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police of Dhaka Range, said: “We will penalise Ashiqur as per the Civil Aviation Authorities’ recommendations.” Ashiqur entered the terminal through Heavy Luggage Gate-3. After completing the check, he went past the Immigration Gate-1. With the support of immigration police, he crossed the immigration and went to the Boarding Bridge-5 with his aunt, local sources said.
