Police on Wednesday arrested a sub-inspector of Sher-e-Banglanagar Police Station as he deliberately shot a youth due to previous enmity.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station Abdul Momin was withdrawn and transferred to the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in connection with the incident.
Police said sub-inspector Anwar Hossain had an illicit relation with the wife of Shah Alam, an alleged mugger. He was wanted in several cases filed with different police stations.
SI Anwar fired a gunshot at Shah Alam near Taltola Bhanga Bridge at around 12:00 am on October 20, leaving him injured. He was admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) with a bullet wound in his leg. As relatives of Shah Alam alleged that SI Anwar intentionally shot at him as he protested the extramarital affair with his wife, police investigated the matter.
Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon) Biplob Sarker said he investigated the allegation and found that SI Anwar fired shot at Shah Alam over enmity. Mostafa, elder brother of Shah Alam, filed a case with Sher-e-Banglanagar Police Station in connection with the incident. Sher-e-Banglanagar thana police arrested SI Anwar just after filling of the case.
