A four-wicket haul by Shuvagata Hom and Saif Hasan’s magnificent 61-run knock enabled defending champions Abahani Limited to register an emphatic six-wicket victory over Kalabagan Krira Chakra in the fifth round of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League held on Tuesday at BKSP ground no-4 in Savar.
Saif, who hit six boundaries and one over boundary during his 62-ball stay on the crease saw Abahani raced to 161 for 4 in only 30.2 overs.
Abahani were in a spot of bother when Saif came to the crease losing Liton Das (20) and Shadman Islam (20), and Nazmul Hossain Shanto (24).
Skipper M Mithun (30 n.o) and Afif Hossain (2 n.o) completed the chase quite comfortably for Abahani in 30.2 overs.
Abul Hasan bagged two Abahani’s wickets giving away 20 runs.
Earlier, put to bat first Kalabagan faced early batting jolt and losing wickets at regular intervals eventually were dismissed for mediocre total of 156 in 45.5 overs.
Skipper Tushar Imran (36) and Zimbabwean recruit Masakadza (31) however added a useful 60-run partnership for the fourth wicket stand for Kalabagan, after they lost their top three batsmen at 28 runs in the scoreboard.
Later Muktar Ali (22) and Abul Hasan (13) chipped in to take the team’s total past over 150 runs landmark.
The Abahani bowler who caused havoc with his spell was Shuvagata who finished his spell with 4 for 19 runs while M Saifuddin and Manan Sharma bagged two wickets apiece.
Shuvagata was later named the player of the match.
