Plying of battery – run rickshaw has again prohibited in the port city from Thursday .
The decision against the battery run rickshaw was taken in a meeting of Chittagong Metropolitan Police on Thursday and asked the owners and drivers of these rickshaws to remove the batteries from the rickshaws . Police conducted drive against the battery run rickshaw from yesterday morning in the city . Following the sudden stoppage of these specialized rickshaws, the commuters are suffering miserably shortage of public transports. A number of commuters in Chowkbazar area told this reporter that without alternative arrangement of abundant public transports and human haulers, the unexpected shutdown of these rickshaws by CMP police is not wise at all. They said BRTA or City corporation will look into the matter for alternative arrangement or impose of taxes and licenses whichever is easier. With the ad vantage of shut down of battery run rickshaws, the paddle driven rickshaws and auto-rickshaws are claiming more fare than before caused sufferings to the common people. While contacted Additional Police commissioner (Traffic, Admn) Shahidur Rahman told that these battery run rickshaws have no legality for plying in the city and did not show any documents in their favour.
