Shumi Begum of Bangladesh is the highest scorer of domestic handball competition of Maldives. She scored 54 goals in this year’s Makita Havaru Women’s Handball Tournament, which was held in Maldives. She got the Highest Scorer Award in this handball meet. Shumi Begum has been taking part in this handball competition since 2017.
Shumi Begum took part in the final of the handball competition on Friday last. She played for her team Fit Feminine. But her team failed to become champions in the handball competition as they lost to their opponents team in the final. Shumi Begum has been playing for Bangladesh National Handball team since 2012.
A total of seven teams took part in the domestic handball tournament of Maldives. Two players from India, Serbia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh took part for each team in this year’s handball competition, which took place in Maldives. Shumi Begum showed an outstanding performance in this year’s handball competition and distinguished herself for her best performance among the all local players and foreign players.
Shumi Begum said to a local website, ” I tried my best to perform well. I was also able to score. I was included among the best players of the tournament. I am glad for my achievement. Though we could not emerge the champions of this handball meet but I am happy. There were lot of youngsters in our team. So, we could not clinch the championship trophy.”
It may be mentioned that Masuda Akter of Bangladesh also took part in the handball competition with Shumi Begum. Masuda Akter for the first time participated in the handball tournament in Maldives. Both of them got return tickets and also got prestigious remunerations from the authorities of Maldives.
