Taking proper care with heartfelt affection and showing due respect to the older citizens should be ensured at the family.
The opinion came at a post-rally discussion arranged in Panchagarh district town on Saturday in observance of the International Day of Older Persons- 2016 with the theme of ‘Take a stand against ageing.’
Panchagarh district unit of ‘Bangladesh Probin Hitoishi Sangha (BPHS)’ in association with district administration organised the discussion followed by prize distribution ceremony and cultural function.
Deputy Commissioner of Panchagarh Amal Krishna Mandal attended the discussion held at Circuit House as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mahmudul Alam in the chair.
Panchagarh Zila parisahd Administrator Abu Bakar Siddique, District Muktijoddha Commander Mirja Abul Kalam Dulal, Vice-president of district unit of BPHS Abdul Mazid Babul, its General Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman, Awami League leaders Rezia Islam and Manira Parveen, addressed as special guests.
One-minute silence was observed in memory of 10 departed members of the organisation and an affectionate mother and an affectionate father were awarded for their best services with heartfelt affections to their parents.
The speakers said elderly people contributed their maximum in earning independence through the War of Liberation and the grateful nation should do everything for their peaceful living and relieving them of helplessness.
Narrating the problems, including carelessness, uncertainly and negligence, being faced by the elderly citizens at many families and in the society, they suggested for ensuring adequate supports for their welfare.
BSS from Faridpur adds: International day of older persons was observed here on Saturday in a befitting manner through holding rallies and discussion organized by Faridpur unit of Bangladesh Prabin Hitaishy Sangha in cooperation of district administration, Social Service department and NGOs.
A rally was held participated by a large number of senior citizens, government officials and NGO men which paraded different streets of the town. The rally was followed by a discussion held in the conference room of DC of Faridpur.
DC Umme Salam Tanzia addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Dr MA Jalil in the chair.
