UNB, Kuala Lumpur :
Bangladesh will focus on attracting massive Malaysian investment in prospective areas apart from branding positive Bangladesh during a three-day trade show titled ‘Showcase Bangladesh-2014’ beginning in Kuala Lumpur on Friday. “We need to consider Malaysia as potential investor instead of a country for only selling Bangladeshi products and services. Our target is to attract bulk volume of Malaysian investment to Bangladesh,” chairman of the fair organising committee Syed Nurul Islam told UNB.
He said Bangladesh will also focus on how Malaysian technology and expertise could be utilised in Bangladesh in various sectors to maximise production and improve further the quality of Bangladeshi products.
Nurul Islam, also CEO of the Well Group of Industries, said the objectives of the show are to brand Bangladesh, promote Bangladesh and attract more Malaysian investments to Bangladesh.
“Time has come to tell the world about positive Bangladesh,” the former BMCCI president said adding that Bangladesh is now the second largest economy in South Asia.
Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) in
collaboration with Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia, Malaysia South-South Association (MASSA), Malaysia External Trade Development Cooperation (MATRADE) and Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) will host the event to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). This is to be the third trade show in Malaysia with the same title.
The organisers said the participants and the entrepreneurs want to uphold Bangladesh as a lucrative business hub and highlight its increasing economic diversity.
Apart from branding Bangladesh abroad, he said, the trade show will contribute towards reducing the trade gap between the two countries.
Besides investment opportunities in infrastructure development and industries, there are immense potentials for Malaysian investment in Bangladesh’s tourism sector, said the organisers.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu is scheduled to inaugurate the fair as the chief guest.
About 60 Bangladeshi companies representing the banking and insurance services, readymade garments – both woven and knitted textiles – infrastructure, ICT telecom and other sectors will participate in the showcase with their products and services.
