At least seven people, including the local police OC, have been injured with shots being fired during a rally of Awami League Presidium Member Kazi Zafarullah. The incident occurred around 8:30am on Saturday at Bhanga Upazila’s Kawliberha, said Faridpur’s Nezarat Deputy Collector (NDC) Robayet Hayat Shiplu. Bhanga Police Station OC Nazmul Islam is among the seven, who sustained bullet injuries during the shooting. The others are local Awami League activists Shaheb Ali, Isarat Akhand, ‘Matobbor’, ‘Farhad’, ‘Shajahan’ and Imarat Akhand. OC Islam, who has gunshot injuries on the shoulder, is being treated at the Bhanga Upazila Health Complex. “The incident happened when the shotgun, in possession of Faridpur Awami League leader Dipak Majumder’s bodyguard, accidentally went off during the rally,” he told reporters at the hospital. The rest of the injured have been admitted to the Faridpur Medical College and Hospitals. Two of them were in critical conditions, said NDC Shiplu.–bdnews24.com
