Shortage of teachers hampers education in Beanibazar

Students of government primary schools in the district are being deprived of education due to shortage of teachers.
According to local sources, the teachers’ recruitment is done every year is very poor compared to the posts vacant.
Several schools are also continuing academic activities with only two or three teachers.
Consequently, guardians are forced to enroll their children in English and Bangla medium kindergartens.
According to primary education office sources, some 151 posts of teacher including 17 of headmaster, have remained vacant for long in the government primary schools in Beanibazar upazilas of the Sylhet district.
Despite willingness to provide standard education, the authorities of the schools are not being able to do so for the teacher crisis.
Ahmed Hossen, a guardian of Beanibazar Govt Primary School, said: “The students of maximum schools suffer more as the syllabuses are not completed timely due to shortage of teachers.”
Like him maximum guardians wished to take their children to private schools, he added.
Md Masum Miah, Upazila primary education officer, said they sent a letter to the Education Ministry seeking immediate appointment to the vacant posts.
