Sylhet Bureau :
Short supply of LPG in Sylhet is feared as production and bottling of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has been suspended at Golapgonj Fractionation Plant at Kailashtilla under Golapgonj Upazila in Sylhet District.
It has been learnt that owing to mechanical problem, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas has not been received by LPG Company Ltd. The state-owned Rectified Petrol Gas Company Limited (RPGCL) owing to its mechanical fault has not been receiving non-liquefied gas (NLG) for the last 15 days. For the shortage of liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) situated at Kailashtilla Bottled Gas producing company LP Gas Company has suspended its bottled gas production for the last two weeks.
As a result, the LP Gas Company has been incurring loss of Tk 3 lakh daily. Simultaneously LPG supplier company RPGCL has been depriving of producing one lakh liters of petrol everyday, resulting in a heavy toll of loss Tk 6 lakh daily. In order to control the pressure of supplied and harnessed gas, Sylhet Gas Fields Authority has been compelled to burn down crude fuel worth Tk. 6 lakh a day. In this tripartite way, one of the greatest gas and Oil fields in the country, Kailash Tilla of Golapgonj under Sylhet District, three companies RPGCL, LPG Company and NGC (which produce Petrol and Diesel) of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporations Associated Company has stopped supplying LPG to RPGCL from where production of one lakh liter petrol and its supply has been suspended for 15 days. For the suspension of LPG supply, on an average three thousand bottles have not been produced in five days a week. Through producing those numbers of LPG gas bottles, Kailash Tilla Oil and Gas Field Authority sold them out to Padma, Jamuna and Meghna Companies which supplied those bottles to meet the demand of fuel throughout Sylhet.
As per demand of time, three enterprises, RPGCL, LPGC and Natural Gas Company are to be saved for the betterment. Within RPGCL, a Chinese Fractionation Plant has been made and fault has been developed in this plant. The local experts opine, if the plant has been constructed by Hundai Company of South Korea, the three companies could somehow mitigate their loss.
