Bangladesh gets 350mw electricity during the peak hours from India though as per agreement Dhaka is expected to get 500 mw electricity.
Bangladesh however, gets 460mw electricity in the off peak hours, said Chowdhury Alamgir Hossain, Acting Managing Director of Power Grid Company Bangladesh (PGCB). When contacted Hossain told the media that during peak hours supply of electricity from India remains 350 mw.
The domestic electricity consumption in both the countries goes up during the peak hours, resulting in short supply of electricity in the transmission line, he said.
To import electricity Bheramara of Bangladesh and Bhahrampur of India have developed required infrastructure and transmission lines. Bangladesh imported 170mw electricity on trial basis from October 5 last year, which had got full phase of 500mw in last December. But the country never got 500mw electricity due to 6 percent technical loss, PGCB sources said.
The average price of importing electricity stood at Tk6.5 per unit, which may change with change of time by Indian Regulatory Commission, sources added.
