Entertainment Report :
Director Debashis Doob’s short film Niruddesh Jatra received the honourable mention in the Best Student Director category at the Prague International Indie
Film Festival. Produced by Bangladesh Cinema & Television Institute, the short film was inspired by author Akhteruzzaman Elias’ short story of the same title. The cast features ML Rumi, Arindam Sarkar, Samarjit Vowmik, Meshkatul Masabey Sanchary, Shankori and others. Shot and edited by Debashis Doob, the experimental short film was the director’s diploma cinema, produced
by his alma mater.
The director Doob said, “Bangladesh Cinema & Television Institute is the only film school in Bangladesh where students can learn and receive training on filmmaking for two years. At the end of the final semester, students have to make a diploma cinema. Niruddesh
Jatra was the short film that
I made in my final year.”
Niruddesh Jatra premiered on January 19 at the spiritual section of the 19th Dhaka International Film Festival, where it received critical acclaim. Akhteruzzaman Elias’ son Andalib Elias attended the screening and sang its praises. Niruddesh Jatra will be screened at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s
3rd Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival, which will be held on June 18 to 25. Doob had previously won the Zahir Raihan Best Short Award
at the 5th International Inter University Film Festival for Known and the Best Screenplay and Sound Design awards in 2020 for The Ballad of a Geek.
