At least 17 shops and two godowns were gutted in a devastating fire at Rajarhat upazila bazaar in Kurigram district at 8 am on Thursday.
The loss was estimated at Tk. two crore. Kurigram Fire Service sources said the fire may be originated from electric short circuit.
Police and local sources said when the businessmen came to the bazaar to open their shops at 8 am and found fire. Being informed three units of Kurigram and Ulipur fire service rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after frantic efforts of two hours.
President of Rajarhat Business Association Amzad Hossain told that fire gutted two go down and 17 shops worth Tk. two crore. Rajarhat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sajedur Rahman admitted the incident.
