Shopkeeper hacked to death in Sylhet

A shopkeeper was hacked to death and another injured at Bishwanath upazila in Sylhet on Saturday night. The deceased was Imran Hossain Saimon, 32, son of Maskandar Ali of Dakshin Masul village under Bishwanath municipality, was owner of a grocery shop on Upazila Road at Bishwanath, police said.
The victims cousin, Layek Ahmed, said that two miscreants, including local goon Enam, stopped Saimon while he was returning home with two friends and Layek and the goons tried to snatch away mobile phone and money from Saimon.
ÔEnam started to hack Saimon immediately after he disclosed that he could recognise the snatchers,Õ Layek said, adding that his friend Fayez also was hacked there near the upazila council Mosque at around 10:30pm.
Bishwanath police officer-in-charge Shamim Musa said that hearing their scream, locals came forward and sent the victims to the upazila hospital, but the on duty doctor declared Saimon dead.
The body was handed over to his family on Sunday afternoon after completion of postmortem examination at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Effort is going on to arrest the suspects involved in the killing incident,Õ the police officer said in the afternoon, adding that a case would be filed in this connection after receiving complaint from the victims family.
