Shootout in Jessore

A suspected terrorist was killed in a ‘shootout’ with police at Basatpur village in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district early Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Anisur Rahman,32, son of Waziar Rahman, a resident of Baliadanga village in Sadar upazila of Satkhira district.
Kabir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station, said Anisur was wanted in several cases, including for murder, robbery and extortion.
Being tipped off, a team of Satkhira Sadar thana police arrested him from Dhaka on Friday. Later he was taken to Satkhira at night. After interrogation, Sadar thana police along with Anisur Rahman conducted a drive in collaboration with Sharsha thana police at Basatpur village in Sharsha for recovering firearms at about 2.00 am on Saturday.
Sensing the presence of the police, associates of Anisur opened fire on them, prompting the policemen to fire back, triggering a gunfight. Anisur was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his associates fled the scene.
Two constables-Mithun and Nurul Islam-of Sharsha Police Station were also injured during the gunfight.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
