2010 South Asian Games gold medalist shooter Syeda Sadia Sultana, who is now under treatment at the burn unit of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery of Dhaka Medical College, is gradually recovering after an accident at her Chittagong residence a week ago.
Talking to BSS today (Sunday) Bangladesh Shooting Federation general secretary Intekhabul Hamid Apu said “Sadia’s is improving and her condition is better than yesterday. She is supposed to go for skin drafting operating tomorrow (Tuesday).”
Sadia, a member of Bangladesh’s gold medal winning team in 10m air rifle event at the 2010 SA Games, burnt her body while cooking at her home on October 15. She was also a member of Bangladesh’s gold winning team in the 2010 Commonwealth Shooting Championship.
She was rushed to the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital immediately before being transferred to the Dhaka Medical College on Thursday last.
“It happened seven days [actually six days ago] in Chittagong. She has suffered deep burn, almost 20 per cent of her body has been burn and hence she is not out of danger. She will need a surgery to remove the dead skin. We will try our best to cure her,” Dr. Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery disclosed to local English daily.
