Detectives have arrested the prime accused in the killing of former General Secretary of Motijheel Thana Awami League Jahidul Islam Tipu and Badrunnesa Government Mahila college student Samia Afran Prity with the help of technology and intelligence surveillance.
The accused is identified as Md Masum alias Akash. DB chief Additional Police Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter told it in a press conference at DMP centre on Sunday noon.
Masum is accused in several cases, said the police officer adding that it is a pre-planned murder.
Asked how much money was contracted to kill Tipu, the DB chief said it was not known how much.
However, there are several cases filed against the arrested Masum. He got a contract to kill Tipu to escape from those cases.
DB officials said that they are trying to arrest those involved with the murder.
Earlier, Tipu, who was on his microbus destined for his Khilgaon home, was shot dead by a masked assailant in the capital’s Shahjahanpur area on Thursday night. A rickshaw passenger Samia Afran Prity was also shot and died on the spot.
Tipu’s driver Monir Hosen Munna was shot in his hand in the incident.
Later, Tipu’s wife Farhana Islam Dolly filed the case with Shahjahanpur Police station.
