Staff Reporter : Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel will not hesitate to use firearms against the arsonists [petrol bomb carriers] if such situation is created. Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed made the remarks in a press conference at the BGB headquarters on Thursday morning. BGB has taken such decision to shoot at sight at a time when political violence is taking a toll on lives across the country. “It the right of BGB personnel to save their life if they are attacked. If someone hurl petrol bomb to people in front of me, I will not chase him with sticks. I will surely attack him to save five other lives,” Aziz Ahmed said. He said, “At present, the BGB personnel are deployed in 17 districts, he said they are not facing any problem in regular duties in the border areas because of the deployment. BGB men will injure one person carrying petrol bombs to save those who might suffer burn injuries from the attack. It will reduce the casualty.” All the members of the force deployed to maintain law and order across the country are equipped with lethal weapons, he added. Eighty-five platoons of BGB are posted at different parts of the country at present while 70 more platoons are ready to join them in tackling the current violence.
