Lt Col Ashique Billah, Legal and Media Wing Director of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday said Stamford University student Shipra Debnath will not stop her fight for justice.
He came up with the remark while addressing a press briefing in the evening.
Ashique also said Shipra had given some “sensitive information” to the investigators, but he didn’t share further details.
“What is most important is that she said she will fight till the last day of her life to get justice,” the RAB official said.
He added RAB’s investigating officer has already started talking to Shipra and another Stamford student Shahedul Islam Shifat. As they had just gone through trauma, the investigators will gradually talk to them further.
Shipra got out on bail on Sunday.
Soon after her release , Shipra in a Facebook post written, “I am good to go far for the justice. Back to my family. Just allow me some time.”
“After her release, Shipra said her life has taken an unexpected turn due to the incident. She said she’ll seek justice till her last breath if needed,” Ashique said.
On Monday, Shifat came out of Cox’s Bazar Jail after a Cox’s Bazar court granted him bail in two separate cases.
Ashique also said that RAB has appealed to the court in Cox’s Bazar to extend the 10-day remand time limit set by the court for questioning the accused in the Major (rtd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case.
The court remanded three of the accused on seven-day remands each, and set a time limit of 10 business days to complete the interrogation process.
The law enforcement agency asked for an extension but they did not ask for any specific amount of additional time.
RAB’s Ashik said: “The four accused who were interrogated at the jail gate have given us some shocking information. We have appealed to the court to withdraw this obligation to complete the interrogation within 10 days so that we can discover more unexpected information.
Stamford students Shifat, Shipra Debnath and Tahsin Rifat Noor were in Cox’s Bazar to shoot a travel video for Sinha’s YouTube channel named “Just Go”.
Thirty-six year old Sinha, who served in the Special Security Force (SSF) and took voluntary retirement from the army two years ago, was killed in police firing at a checkpost, triggering an uproar across the country.
Shifat, who saw the shooting, was accused in a murder and a narcotics case by Teknaf police.
After Sinha got killed, Ramu police picked up Shipra and Rifat on early August 1. Police handed Rifat to his parents’ custody, but arrested Shipra under a narcotics case.
