Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said that after the Liberation War, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman purchased 7 dredgers and prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken step to dredge the channels and rivers but BNP did not take any step to purchase a single dredger during their tenure.
 This was disclosed at the inaugural ceremony of dredgers and eight tag boats built by Karnaphuli Ship Builders Limited, a renowned dredger company in Asia on Sunday by the side of the River Karnaphuli dock yard.
The Shipping Minister said that if our local company can successfully complete this work, a huge foreign currency will be saved and our confidence will be built up in future.
 Mentionable that Karnaphuli Ship Builders was established in 1984 and they supplied various kind of ships. Presently, they signed an agreement to supply ten dredgers and other related ships and tag boat for Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority(BIWTA).
Managing Director of Karnaphuli Ship Builders Ltd described the progress of 10 dredgers and eight tag boats and other related equipment for BIWTA. Mentionable that the estimated cost of building this ten dredgers and eight tags near about nine hundred core.
Secretary of BIWTA Md. Abdus Samad, Port Chairman Rear Admiral M. Khaled Iqbal, Chairman of BIWTA Commodore Md. Mozammel Hoque also spoke on the occasion.
