Ship damaged being hit by another at Barishal River port

MV Parabat-12 again dashing MV Surovi-8 at Barishal River port on Tuesday early morning damaged the vessel and port structure.
Both triple-deck launches were plying on Dhaka- Barishal- Dhaka route and anchored at Barishal river port on Tuesday early morning.
Sirajul Islam, driver of MV Sorovi-8 said after starting from Dhaka river port on Monday night they reaching Barishal river port at 5:00 AM berthed there.
MV Parabat-12 of Rabeya Shipping Lines plying on the same route reaching at Barishal port half-an hour later at 5:30 AM tremendously hit the anchored Surovi-8 of Crescent Shipping Lines damaging the vessel and port structure, crew of Surovi-8 told.
Rezaul Mawla, director of Crescent Shipping Lines, said owners of Rabeya Shipping Lines to impose monopoly on river routes often breaks the rules and regulations of water transportation endangering safety of the vessels and lives of passengers. Earlier Parabat-9 hitting Surovi-8 on mid river sustained damages worth Tk.3 lakhs.
On Tuesday Parabat-12 reaching Barishal also intentionally hitting Surovi-8 berthed at the port damaged worth Tk.1 lakh of the vessel and damaged the port structure also.
BIWTA officials already inspected the vessel and port structure and now they will decide about taking action against the liable, the crescent shipping director said.
Abdul Huq, driver of MV Prabat12, said due to mechanical fault of their vessel, Surovi-8 sustained unintentional hit.
Ajmal Huda Mithu, BIWTA deputy director and Barishal port officer, was not available for comment after repeated attempts to contact him for comment.
