Anwara was one of the popular drama serials of Bangladesh Television. Produced by recently deceased producer Sheikh Riazuddin Badshah, Shilpi Sarkar Apu, hailed from Netrakona, came into discussion to play the title role in the serial during that time. Till now Apu is known to all by name Anwara.
Completed Honours and Masters from Political Science from University of Dhaka, first acted when she was a student of Class-V. During that time she acted in play Spartacus Bishoyok Jotilota from Netrakona’s Khelaghor. Apu-starrer first TV play was late Atiqul Haque Chowdhury produced Sukher Upoma. She acted against Afzal Hossain in the play.
Shilpi Sarkar Apu is an actress and playwright at a time. For last few years she has been acting in multi-dimensional and challenging roles. For this reason, she is seen either in exceptional roles or role of a mother on the screen. Now she is acting in role of Sorboti Begum in Maasranga TV’s ongoing serial Baker Khoni, directed by Nazrul Islam Raju.
Apu said that on the occasion of coming Eid, she acted in role of a madwoman in Mizanur Rahman Labu directed six-episode Eid serial Nosukha Syndrome. On the other hand, Channel i is going to telecast a new drama serial titled Amma, directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud, where Apu plays the title role. Therefore, Apu has already finished shooting of BTV’s new serial titled Sottyopurer Nittyodin, directed by Niaz Mahbub. Meanwhile, she is also acting in several numbers of faction plays on the occasion of Eid, she also said.
While talking about her present time engagement Apu said, “I had to stop acting due to Corona for last few months. In fact, life was stalled. I became strident staying at home during lockdown. Later I get back life after returning acting. Though the Corona situation is not favourable now I have to maintain social distance and hygiene while taking part in the shooting. Now I am acting in challenging roles. It is pleasure to me because directors keep their confidence on me and I become glad when get feedback from the viewers for any of my work. In fact, it is really a great achievement for me as an actor.”
In the big screen, Shilpi Sarkar Apu first acted in Abu Sayeed’s Nirontor where she played the role of Ilias Kanchan’s wife.
Apu-starrer two movies – Raihan Rafi’s Poran and Noim Imtiaz Neyamul’s Gunchil are waiting to release now, she also said.
