Four new plays, based on archeology and war of independence, are going to be staged soon in different parts of the country. Among those plays, first one is scheduled to be staged today. Theatre and Film Department of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has produced all the four plays, among which two will portray the richness of the country’s archeology and two will address the mass killing during the war of independence.
This was said at a press conference, held at the seminar room of BSA on Tuesday.
Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director General of BSA, spoke of the productions. Directors of the plays were also present on the occasion.
Liaquat Ali Lucky in his speech said, “Two plays among the four will revolve round two historically significant sites of archeological value- Wari Bateshwar in Narsingdi and Paharpur Buddha Bihar in Naogaon.”
Wari-Bateshwar is dealt in play Shikor (root), written and directed respectively by Tanvir Ahmed Sidney and Liaquat Ali Lucky.
Paharpur Buddha Bihar has been depicted in Debashish Ghosh’s play, yet unnamed.
The other two plays – Juddhopuran and Concentration Camp 71 deal with the genocide during 1971.
Anisul Haque Barun has directed Juddhopuran, which specifically portrays the killing spree of the Pakistani army and their collaborators in the Mirpur area during the nine-month Liberation War. The play will be premiered today at Mirpur Benarashi Polli.
Concentration Camp 71, directed by Bakar Bakul, deals with the mass murder in Faridpur during the war of independence. The play will be premiered in Faridpur Stadium on March 24, said the organisers.
