Marking 123rd birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) arranged a discussion and cultural function on May 25.
International Mother Language Institute Director General Hakim Arif discussed the life and literary works of Kazi Nazrul Islam while Shilpakala Academy Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the programme. The cultural programme featured solo and group performances, group dance and recitation. Noted Nazrul singers Sharmin Shathi Islam rendered song Kalo Meyer Payer Tolai, Chhonda Chakraborty rendered song Sondhya godhuli logone, Urbi Shome rendered song Sokhi badol, Yakub Ali Khan rendered song Bodhu tomar amar ei je biroho, Sheikh Jasim rendered song Mor priya hobe esho rani, Mofizur Rahman rendered song Kholo go ankhi and Bijon Chandra Mistry rendered song Soda mon chahe. Yasmin Mushtari, Nashid Kamal and Shovon Majumdar also performed solo numbers.
Dhaka University Music Department and Jagannath University Music Department performed
chorus Jago amrito piyash and Mora jhonjhar moto uddam respectively. There were also presentation of dance performances by noted dancers-choreographers Farhana Chowdhury Baby directed Bagichai bulbuli tui, Sohel Rahman directed Beli phul ene dao, Munmun Ahmed directed Ghono mayamoy shopone. Noted elocutionists Jayanta Chattapadhyay, Shimul Mustafa, Jhorna Sarkar and Progga Laboni recited Amar Koifiyat and Nari respectively. The event was hosted by Dilruba Sathi and Ahsanullah Tomal.
